We love a good rhubarb crumble here at Cultivate so when we got an email from the team over at FarmAbility offering us locally grown rhubarb we were naturally enthusiastic. But we were even more enthusiastic once we found out where and how it was grown.
Based at FAI farms in Wytham ( the farm we get out free-range organic eggs from), FarmAbility provides training, therapeutic activities and work experience for adults with Learning Disabilities and Autism on a working livestock farm. The co-farmers take part in purposeful activities such as egg collecting and grading, growing vegetables, caring for animals and taking part in seasonal farm tasks. The varied activities are designed for therapeutic benefit and healthy lifestyles, to foster practical and vocational skills, promote confidence and self-esteem, and encourage teamwork and independence – all this while having fun and making friends.
Check out this great video for more about what they do.
They rely on donations and grants to expand and strengthen the FarmAbility programme, If you would like to support their work you can make a donation via their JustGiving Page and help make a positive difference to the lives of their co-farmers.
