Sandy Lane Farm is the very essence of local, organic, mixed farming. Located just 8 miles outside of Oxford (and not that far away from us at the Cultivate land), they have 100 acres of land, 30 acres of which is devoted to fruit and veg, the rest to some of the happiest pigs, sheep, chickens and bees around (along with a stable and land for horses). With 30 years experience at Sandy Lane, and three Bennett generations currently on the farm, it’s no wonder the crops we get from them are so delicious, beautiful and exciting!
George says his favourite things to grow are squash, sweetcorn and carrots. But when asked to choose his favourite to eat, he has real difficulty – there are so many to choose from, and each season brings taste delights. He has narrowed it down to: sweetcorn, zucca marina di chioggia squash, borlotti beans, red russian kale, purple sprouting, garlic scapes, broad beans, edamame and pointed cabbage. If he loves those, you probably will, too!
Sandy Lane Farm do a lot of events and open days. If you’re keen to visit them and find out more, check out their website for information: www.sandylanefarm.net.
