In memory of William Black

with No Comments

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe were sad to hear before Christmas that William Black has died, aged 60. William, the founder of Oxford’s Natural Bread Company, had been supplying Cultivate with bread since the launch of the VegVan in 2012. Many Cultivate customers have William to thank for producing one of the finest sourdough loaves in Oxford, and it is a testament to his business skills that it has come to be available in outlets across the city, as well as in the NBC shop, Companion, in Little Clarendon Street, which he established shortly before his death. Many people will have also met William at markets, at his shops and at bread-making courses and remember his huge passion for food and larger than life character! In fact, in addition to bread, William had a long career in food including as a respected importer of fish and sea-food to Michelin-starred restaurants, and as the author of a number of successful food books.

We remember William with warmth and we are happy that Mirek and his team will continue to keep the ovens going at the fantastic bakery that William started.
