Autumn is coming and change is in the air…
Starting from the 20th of September, we’ll be making a few changes to the VegVan schedule. We made our last major alterations to the timetable way back in January 2013, and now with the move of our depot from East Oxford up to the farm, and the launch of Cultivate Online in October, it’s time to take stock and make sure our weekly routine is as good as it can be.
We’re trimming the length of some stops where there are quieter moments, extending others to meet demand, and in two cases, removing a stop where the area is already served by Cultivate at another time during the week. You can read all about the new schedule and the reasons behind specific changes below.
We are also gearing up to launch Cultivate Online in October, our new delivery service which will drop off a full range of the VegVan’s finest fruit, veg and other products to your local collection hub. You can find out more about our online shop here. We’ll be releasing full details of the hub locations soon, and if there isn’t one near you yet, you can get in touch with Mim to register your interest in hosting a hub!
VegVan Schedule Changes
Summertown – the last VegVan stop will be on Thursday 25th September.
Our Thursday stop in Summertown hasn’t blossomed as we had hoped it might and the tricky parking arrangements on a busy Thursday morning have also made it a difficult stop. But don’t worry North Oxford customers – we are at Summertown Farmers’ Market every Sunday from 10-2pm so you will still have access to great Cultivate produce.
Rusty Bike from 4-7pm – now with an extra half-hour!
Our stop on Magdalen Road outside the Rusty Bicycle will continue as before, but with an extra half hour added to the beginning.
Rail Station – our final stop at Oxford Station will be on Friday 3rd October.
Although the Station is a bustling location, VegVan sales have been variable. Our year-long experiment in customer psychology suggests that most people are not in a vegetable-buying mindset as they dash for their train on a Friday evening! With a regular stop now established in Little Clarendon Street, customers in the area won’t have too far to travel for their veggies.
In addition, we are launching one of our first Cultivate Online delivery hubs at the West Oxford Community Centre, so customers west of the station will soon be able to pick up their Cultivate produce from there.
Little Clarendon Street 12-3.30pm – slight time changes
Little Clarendon Street stop will have slight changes, starting at 12pm, instead of 11am, and running later.
Headington – now from 10.30-2pm
From Saturday 20th September the VegVan in Headington will run from 10.30-2pm, a slight reduction from previous hours. Headington has been a successful new stop for Cultivate, but we may have been overzealous with the number of hours, and need to make sure our grocers get home in time for tea!
SOFACOMA – from Sunday 5th October, the South Oxford Market stall will be run entirely by volunteers.
One of our favourite and longstanding locations since its inception, SOFACOMA market is now firmly established, but given the small size of the local community we often don’t sell enough veggies to pay our grocer’s time. We strongly support this amazing community initiative so we are putting in place new arrangements so that Cultivate veg will still be sold there every Sunday entirely by volunteers. If you would like to find out about being a volunteer at the market, please contact Emma.
Summertown Market – no change!
The Summertown Market stall will run as normal from 10am-2pm every Sunday.
